COLNAGO Pro Cycling Team successful at National
Two Gold, one Silver and one Bronze is the total medal count of the COLNAGO girls at the Italian and Swiss Championships, which were held
last weekend for the Italian Championships and three weekends ago for
the Swiss Championships.
The Italian Championships took place in Nemi, close to the Italian capital, Rome. Leading throughout the race and finishing over eight minutes ahead of the second competitor, Eva earned her 17th national title in total. Anna
Oberpleitner and Judith Pollinger joint her on the podium for Silver and Bronze.
Lisa, competing in the Under 23 category, passed up front in lap 2, was able to continue the competition in the lead, and crossed the finish line over two inutes ahead of Alessia Bulleri, who finished in second position, followed by Giulia Gaspardino in third.
Julia, on the other hand, did not take part in the Italian Championships, as she had decided to retire from professional Mountain-Biking. Competing for
fifteen years, she has three Juniors National titles in her pocket, a second and a fourth place at the 2011 World Cups in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic and in Offenburg, Germany, and she has further earned the Bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships Juniors in Champéry.
COLNAGO Pro Cycling would like to thank Julia for the years with the team
and wishes her all the best for her future endeavours.
The Swiss Championships took place in Lenzerheide. Andrea and Nathalie
both took part in the Eliminator competition. The field was strong, and
included Jolanda Neff, last year`s Eliminator Swiss Champion, as well as
Kathrin Stirnemann and Ramona Forchini, Silver and Bronze medal
winners in this discipline at the European Championships in Bern this year.
Only eight riders made it to the finals after Qualifications, where Andrea
had the 4th fastest and Nathalie the 7th fastest time. Andrea managed to
win her Semi Final, but the victory in the Final went to Jolanda Neff. Neff
had entered a decisive downhill section first and there had been no further
possibilities for Andrea to attack her thereafter. Nathalie ended up in 6th
position total, after she crossed the finish line behind Kathrin Stirnemann
and Jolanda Neff in the Semi Final, and lost out on Forcini at the finish
sprint in the Small Final.
Neff was also expected to win the U23 Cross-Country competition. She
fulfilled the expectations and won the race ahead of Linda Indergand and
Andrea, who collected a Bronze medal next to her Silver in the Eliminator
competition. Katrin Leumann earned the Swiss Championships title in the
Women’s Elite category ahead of Ester Suess and Kathrin Stirnemann.
Nathalie finish on fifth place behind Corina Gantenbein.
The Team is to take part in the upcoming UCI MTB World Cup in Andorra,
and hopes to be successful also in the second half of the World Cup
season. In the first half of the World Cup season, Eva won the World Cup
in Alpstadt, Germany and is currently second in the overall UCI rankings,
whereas Andrea was 1st in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic and 3rd in Val di
